Traditionell hätten die Bundesligaspieler der Swans das Gastteam, in diesem Fall die Oberwart Gunners, trotz des bevorstehenden Duells auf Gmundner Parkett „herzlich empfangen“ und dem Gegner ein Liebstattherz vor Spieleröffnung überreicht!

Nach vorzeitiger Beendigung der Saison 19/20 der Superligen möchten wir trotzdem nicht mit unserer liebgewonnenen Tradition brechen und senden daher unseren Gmunden Swans Liebstatt Gruß via Homeoffice als Bild in die Welt hinaus! Erstmals um all jenen die noch wacker für die Allgemeinheit im Einsatz sind damit unseren herzlichen Dank auszurichten und weiters allen betroffenen Sportler*innen, Coaches, Wirtschaftstreibenden, Gastronomen und den vielen Vereinen und all unseren Freunden weltweit die es, wie uns, nun besonders hart trifft  unsere Solidarität zu übermitteln – wir denken an Euch!!! 

Etwas Positives darf ich an dieser Stelle platzieren, dass momentan alle unsere BBfreunde im In- und Ausland mit denen ich bisher Kontakt hatte wohlauf sind! Wir hoffen, dass es auch so bleibt und, dass sich unsere Basketballcommunity und darüber hinaus Jung bis Alt strikt an die Vorschriften und Maßnahmen der Bundesregierung halten – es kommen wieder bessere Zeiten!!!

Falls es interessiert und nachdem es hier vorerst keine sportlichen Nachrichten für uns gibt, warum nicht einmal der Blick auf die Geschichte des Gmundner Liebstatt Sonntag?
Der Ursprung dieses Brauches begründet sich auf 1641 als einflussreiche wohlhabende Bürger der „Corpus Christi Bruderschaft“, vom Passauer Bischof Leopold Wilhelm sanktioniert, am 4. Fastensonntag die Armen der Stadt zum gemeinsamen Mahl einluden und sie damit „Liabb´státt´n“, also ihre Liebe der Brüderlichkeit und ihres Glaubens geben wollten. Der Tradition folgend beschenken die Einheimischen nun ihre Liebgewonnenen mit einem schön verzierten Lebkuchenherzen. Der Brauch wurde  2014 durch die Österreichische UNESCO-Kommission als nationales, immaterielles Kulturerbe verewigt! In normalen Zeiten feiert die ganze Stadt Gmunden den „Liebstatt Sonntag“ mit Kirchgang, Trachtengruppen, Musik und vielen, vielen Lebkuchen Herzen! Dieses Jahr ist es abgesagt, wie viele anderen Veranstaltungen auch, 2021 sind wir wieder dabei! 

Traditionally, the Bundesliga players of the Swans would have "warmly welcomed" the visiting team, in this case the Oberwart Gunners, despite the upcoming duel on Gmundner playground and present the opponent a „Liebstatt heart“  (gingerbread) before the game opening!

After the early end of the season 19/20 of the superleagues we still do not want to break with our tradition and therefore we send our Gmunden Swans Liebstatt greeting, via home office and picture, out into the world! 

First, we would like to tell our heartfelt thanks to all those who are still brave for the general public and we convey our solidarity to all, like us, hard affected athletes, coaches, businessmen, restaurateurs and all clubs and friends worldwide – we think of you!!! 

I can place something positive at this point, that at the moment all our BB friends at home and abroad with whom I have had contact so far are well! We hope that it will continue and that our basketball community and, beyond that, young and old, will strictly complying the regulations and measures of the federal government – better times will come again!!!

For interested ones and because there are no sportnews for us, something about the history of the Gmundner Liebstatt Sunday?
The origin of this custom is based on 1641, when influential wealthy citizens of the "Corpus Christi Brotherhood", sanctioned by the Bishop of Passau Leopold Wilhelm, were allowed to invite the poor of the city for a meal on the 4th Sunday of Lent, and did „Liabb´státt´n“, thus confirming their love of fraternity and faith. Following this tradition, the locals now present their loved ones a beautifully decorated gingerbread heart.  In 2014, the Austrian UNESCO Commission registered this custom as a national, intangible cultural heritage! In normal times the whole Gmunden city celebrates the „Liebstatt Sonntag“ downtown with churchgoing, local costume groups and music and many, many gingerbread hearts… This year it is cancelled like many other events…. So we look forward to 2021!!!
